How do I play?
Each puzzle starts blind: you see the subject and how many words are hiding, not the words themselves. Drag across letters in a straight line, in any of eight directions, to select a word. Found words appear in the list below the board. With a screen reader on, tap a word’s first letter and then its last letter instead of dragging.
When does the daily search change?
At midnight in your local time. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day.
How do hints work?
Watch an ad or spend ink, and one unfound word reveals its first letter on the board. You earn ink by finishing levels and the daily. If no ad is ready, nothing blocks you: keep searching, or use ink.
Can I play offline?
Levels work without a connection. Daily searches download ahead of time while you have a connection, and a downloaded daily plays offline.
Where did my unfinished puzzle go?
On the Home screen, Continue daily resumes the daily, and the Level button reopens an unfinished level where you left it.
Does my progress survive a new phone or a reinstall?
Tap your profile on the Home screen and sign in with Google to back up your name, look, level, ink and owned items. They come back when you sign in on another phone or after a reinstall. Purchases come back from Google Play through Restore purchases in the Store, whether or not you sign in. When Android Auto Backup is on for your Google account, your settings, completed count and unfinished boards also come back with the app. Android backs up about once a day, so your most recent play may not be included.
Can I see the walkthrough again?
Yes. Replay tutorial in Settings plays the first-launch walkthrough again.
Words and reports
A word does not fit the subject, or is too obscure. What can I do?
Tap the found word and choose one of the reasons offered: it does not fit the category, it is unfamiliar or too obscure, or the spelling or word form is wrong.
Account and privacy
How do I delete my account?
In the app, tap your profile, then Manage account, then Delete account. You can also use the account deletion page on this site, or email us from the address you signed in with. The app privacy policy explains what is deleted.
How do I change my ad choices?
Where required, Ad privacy choices in the app lets you revisit Google’s consent form. Android settings let you reset or delete your advertising ID. Declining personalization never stops you from playing, and non-personalized ads may still process data.
Updates and requirements
Why does the app say an update is available?
When Secret Search opens or comes back to the screen, it asks Google Play whether a newer version has been published. If one has, you are offered it at most once each time the app starts. Not now keeps playing on the version you have.
Which phones does Secret Search run on?
Android phones running Android 12 or later.
